Why the Right ERAS Photo Matters

Your ERAS headshot is one of the first details residency programs notice. A professional, compliant photo shows that you are prepared and serious about your application.

Common mistakes include images that are the wrong size, have busy backgrounds, or look casual. These issues can create upload problems or leave the wrong impression with program directors.

By following the official specifications: 2 × 2 inches at 150 dpi, under 150 KB, with a plain light background, you avoid technical issues and present yourself professionally. The same headshot also supports consistency across directories, hospital profiles, and LinkedIn.

Trusted by Future Doctors and Medical Professionals

Future doctors across Stanford, SJSU, and SCU choose Pacifica Studio because every session follows ERAS photo requirements exactly.

Applicants receive guidance on attire and posture, professional lighting, and natural retouching. Deliverables include a high-resolution headshot and a MyERAS-ready file prepared to the required size. These portraits are also used in medical school directories, hospital systems, and LinkedIn profiles.

FAQ

What are the official ERAS photo requirements?

The ERAS system accepts a color photo:

  • Dimensions: up to 2.5 × 3.5 inches (vertical)

  • Resolution: 150 dpi

  • File size: 150 KB or smaller

  • Format and color: JPEG or PNG, color image

  • Background: plain, light background

Requirements can change each cycle, so we monitor AAMC and ECFMG guidelines to make sure every file we deliver is up to date. Each client receives both a high-resolution headshot and an ERAS-formatted version ready to upload to MyERAS.

Where is your studio located?

The studio location is: 2068 Walsh Ave, Ste A, Santa Clara, CA 95050

Can I reuse the same headshot for medical school and residency?

Yes. Using one professional image across platforms keeps your presentation consistent. Files are delivered as a high-resolution master and an ERAS-formatted version

What should I wear in my headshot?

  • Business attire or a white coat over professional clothing

  • Solid, neutral colors; avoid busy patterns and large logos

  • Minimal accessories; grooming neat and professional

When and how will I receive my photos?

On the day of your session, you'll receive a link to an online gallery where you can select your favorite images. Once you've made your selections, I typically deliver the retouched photos within three days. If you need them sooner, please let me know, and I'll prioritize the retouching at no additional cost.

What if I’m not happy with the results?

  • Concerns are addressed with additional edits or a follow-up session

  • Only evaluate the retouched finals, not unedited proofs

  • If issues remain after a re-shoot or edits, a full refund is issued
